Das Schwarze Auge Ral Partha Scale comparison

Das Schwarze Auge (sold by Ral Partha)

These were pretty cheap over at: Ral Partha so i decided to give them a go.

Here's how they scale up with frostgrave and GW minis.

Slightly closer pics:

Here we have (in order):
  •  DSA 15048 huntress with dog
  • DSA 15501A Thorwalian Warrior chieftain with warhound
  • GW free company militia
  • DSA 15040 Female mercenary
  • DSA 19024B Lutisana Von Perricum
  • Frostgrave soldier
  • DSA 19024A Helme Haffax armoured w/sword
  • GW Brettonian man at arms
  • DSA 19024E Rakolus Von Schrotenstein. Dark Magician
  • 15507H Schwertgeselle Swordmaster
  • 15507F Norbadische Handlerin Travelling Trader
As you can see the quality of the casting ist great with vert few mould lines for me to tidy up. The scale is marginally smaller than GW and GW, but not hugely. I'd happily include these alongside the other miniatures- especially to represent younger or weedier warband members.

Ral Partha Miniatures

I decided to take a punt and grab some reduced Ral Partha 28mm adventurers to add to various warband. So here they are:

This is Lord Maverick of clan bear, a FG soldier to show scale, the envoker, the printable mage, a GW brettonian and a Zulu warrior.

The scale matches pretty well with FG and GW and could be mixed within a warband. The Ral Partha are a bit skinnier but it's still within a passable size.

Rapier miniatures

Hi folks,

Just opened up an order I placed with Rapier Miniatures. They may not have the biggest range but they do have some brilliant witches, scarecrows and other bits and all of their models are very modestly priced. I also got an ice road, complete with a fez for £1.50! Bargain!

All had really minor mould lines and took only the minimal amount of clearing up.

Here's a few of them with a FG plastic archer and a GW brettonian for scale conparison. As you can see they scale up pretty well.

Oh, they also do pumpkin heads which I've stuck on a couple of gripping beast warriors as thugs.

Scale comparison part 1

Here's' part one of my scale comparison posts.

I'll be back to edit and improve in time!

FG soldier, gripping beast Saxon, GW bretonnian, gripping beast dark ages warrior/ FG soldier kit bash

The GB is smaller by a few mm but is passable in this group. Add a reaper mini to the mix and he becomes a midget, while the FG and GW figures still seem reasonable.

GW brettonian, reaper wizard, gripping beast Saxon, CP models adventurer, frost grave soldier, reaper bones wizard, Wrath of kings ravenscar mercenary

GW bretonnian man at arms, frost grave soldier, gripping beast Saxon, FG soldier, bretonnian, FG soldier, GW empire free company

GW beer, reaper wizard, Warfames factory Indian, FG soldier, reaper bones wizard.

Reaper wizard, Die Schwarzenegger Auge swordsman (from ral partha), GW bret, Die Schwarzenegger Auge merc (from ral partha) FG thaumaturge, lucid eye cro magnon, FG soldier

The lucid eye hunter is pretty chunky but as a huge tracker type he fits the bill.
Reaper,
Die Schwarzenegger Auge (from ral partha), reaper, FG soldier, CP model wizard, FG thaumaturge, lucid eye cro magnon, cp models plague doctor.

Verdict: Wargames factory are too small to use alongside most of the other ranges effectively.

Gripping beast are a little on the small side but passable if used with FG

GW humans are almost the same height and proportion as FG, especially the plastics which I've mixed. Most of the time, just the hands differ.

Reaper a bit on the big side but still passable.
Die Schwarzenegger Auge are a little tall compared to FG soldiers but still ok.

CP range but generally seem fine.

Lucid eye at chunky but as cavemen etc got the bill despite their size.

That's it for now! More to come as I open up the rest of my post!

CP Models delivery

The

I was searching around online and found these gems. Cheap but great quality and came right away.
If they ever expand their fantasy range I'll be snapping up some more of their work.
Here's what I grabbed:

They scale up OK, even if the wizard and rogue are a little tall.

Scenery bits from Famous Gaming

I've just got my hands on some scenery stuff from a local shop in my area. The service was great and the quality is top. I'll eventually put pictures up once I get a replacement phone. iPhones don't seem to appreciate being smashed into 5 pieces.

4mm winter tufts  or these awesome tundra tufts would be great for adding detail to model bases or scenery pieces.

This Winter basing kit would definitely be enough to base an entire warband without having tonnes of larger pots sat around in the way. Amazing value for £4.99

If you're thinking about building scenery these are going to come in seriously handy:
cork bricks - all the fiddly cutting is done for you.
foam bricks- amazing value and super versatile as a building materiel
wooden sticks- a range of sizes to help build rafters, cladding and debris

These gravestones would also add a great bt of character to a larger base or board. Especially with a necro themed warband.

These would make handy loot counters:
Barrels of loot

If you have grand plans for multiple warbands or are going on a scenery making mission this 'snow flock' might come in handy.

Similarly this ivy foliage would make a great addition to both bases and buildings. I'll be adding plenty to my necromancer warband and also onto my evil looking elementalists.

Pics to follow soon but for now, enjoy! If you like what you see, the website and service are both great.

Icy dead people!

I see dead people / Icy dead people...

Badumtsch...

Anyway, this will be my blog for the brand new game Frostgrave by North Star Miniatures. As the name might suggest I'm thinking of using a necromancer as the basis of my warband, but keen to try out as many wizard types as possible!

I've recently gone a bit mental buying figures from a fair few ranges so expect reviews, scale comparisons, conversions and maybe even game related info at some point. My SAGA blog kinda died a death due to never having any time to play so don't hold ya breath for massive content.

Hopefully it's helpful / vaguely interesting to someone else out there.

Cheers,
Jon
